The Reading Festival 2017
For the fifth consecutive year, from October 1 to 7 we held our
The Reading Festival, as part of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. This event was proposed to promote literature and reading in Spanish in the Miami community, with special emphasis on children and young people, but without forgetting the adult public. On this occasion we had as special guests the authors Carmen Posadas, from Spain; María García Esperón, from Mexico, and María del Sol Peralta, from Colombia.
The program included, among other activities, visits of writers to public schools in the city, a seminar on children's literature and reading dedicated to teachers, and the presentation, in different cultural spaces, of the following books for adults:
La hija de Cayetana, by Carmen Posadas;
Copo de Algodón, by María García Esperón;
Extraños testimonios, by Daína Chaviano and
Salchichas vienesas y otras ficciones, by Antonio Orlando Rodríguez.
In homage to the centenary of the children's book
Cuentos de la selva, by the Uruguayan author Horacio Quiroga, the play for children
Las medias de los flamencos was premiered (Antonio Orlando Rodriguez and Eddy Díaz Souza's version; staging and performance by Leonardo Van Schermbeek, and art direction by Jefferson Quintana). This show was staged in different schools and at the cultural gala that closed the event.
New literary cards from the Tris-Tras collection were produced and
distributed free of charge (with poems by María García Esperón and
Cristina
Rebull, and illustrations by July Macuada and Catalina Acelas), which
were distributed free of charge in the activities. The official poster
of the event was made by the Ecuadorian artist Roger Ycaza.
